Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Ants or termites?
A. Winged termites are usually, but not always, smaller, about ¼-inch in length. They appear to have two body segments, straight antennae, and two pairs of equally long wins. Ants have three body segments with a narrow waist, elbowed antenna, and a longer pair of front wings.

Q. How does a professional inspection uncover termite activity that’s invisible to me?
A. While much termite damage is hidden, termites have few secrets to the eyes of a professional. He knows the conditions termites favor and how to uncover termite activity, which the untrained eye might pass over with damaging results.

Q. Is the treatment safe?
A. You, your children, your pets, and your environment are the utmost concern to our state-certified technicians. Our products are EPA approved and only affect insect systems. Humans, pets, and all other mammals are not affected by our products.

Q. Aren’t termites less of a problem in the northern states?
A. Somewhat. But even in Chicago, one out of 16 building has been found to be infested.

Q. Are termites a problem in new buildings?
A. They’ve been found in some new homes shortly after construction was completed.

Q. Can termites attack a home built on a slab?
A. Definitely. All they need is a crack or a slight gap around plumbing. Any opening greater than 1/64-inch is like an open door to them. And once inside a slab-type home, termites are especially difficult to detect.

Q. Are there any “termite-proof” types of construction?
A. There have been many attempts, but none of them have been successful.

Q. I’ve never seen termites swarming in my home. Does that mean my home is termite-free?
A. Not necessarily. It may mean only that you missed seeing them swarm. Swarming usually lasts less than an hour, and only occurs once or twice a year. Also, they may not swarm at all, or if they do, you may not see them.
